Anyone got this to run forward testing properly?
I have jacked my file up pretty good to get it working - the win rate goes out the window compared to backtesting - it only wins about half the time if you run it under real market conditions. Backtesting doesn't account for the changing spread and doesn't give you the real ask and bid like forward testing so results are very different but there still seems to be something here. The biggest problem with the script is the 208 variable is going to be 10 for most of us using a 5 digit that why there is a problem of it not making trades in forward testing. around line 90 you see it is taking 244 or 248 which both should equal 1 when conditions are right it is multiplying that times 208 which if you are on a 5 digit broker is 10 which is always going to be greater than your MaxSpread
NOT TESTING GOOD
Results in back test are not possible - I am running it on a .05 lot on USDCAD which currently is .37 cents per pip on my backtest my largest loss is .27 cents which is not possible. If the spread is 2 I'm down .74 right off the bat so my smallest loss has to be at least the amount of the spread.
anyone that has it working should be able to verify that themselves - this script doesn't work as advertised!
just to add on - this script works by opening a trade if it stops out it opens in the other direction(good concept just doesn't work) this works the same no matter what time frame you run it on - so it stops out and you lose a dollar, your stops and trailing are set so tight you have to make up the 2 pip spread and get 2 more pips back just to break even with the trade you just lost. You see the problem, the market is choppy so it stops out both directions more times than it wins because it is based on very tight margins - it doesn't have these issues in backtesting that's why it tests so well very different conditions.
I got the MACD Sample that comes with MT4 to test very high just like this with very tight margins but it does the same thing when you run it forward in real market conditions
Here is it running on USDJPY - you can make it run good on about any pair, it is always profitable in backtesting. you can see the report looks great and that is off .05 lot in 1 week, I only ran it on a week because it did 7000 trades in one week but you can pick any week and it does about the same. Forward testing it doesn't work like that. If you notice in the script around line 180 it has 1H timeframe so doesnt matter if I run this on 5M or 15M or 1H it has same results all the time. Once it starts trading it just flip flops back and forth so time frame really isn't important for the way it was written. You'll notice in my set I added TakeProfit at the bottom - I was trying to make it hit a higher target when it did go in the right direction instead of always having to retrace to hit the trailing stop but it didn't help much

Hi Misty,
so which one...? :)
Sorry, i am new here and haven't followed all your threads....:)
Hi Moody, I see.
The thing is MT4 calculates tick movement in backtesting. It moves the price from Open to Low to High to Close with minimal randomizations which produces a steady movement in price. This is perfect for trailing very short stop losses, because it doesn't move into the wrong direction and creates a high profit rate there.
There are programs like Tick Data Suite which enable real tick data backtesting for mt4.
here is a backtest. They are called 99% backtests as well.
You can backtest all you want - I forward tested and doesn't work which is all we really want to know correct?
